SPARK Lynedoch did not receive a lease extension to their school premises, resulting in their request to Kwikspace for a rapid solution that will accommodate 500 students for the 2023 school year. The Stellenbosch-based primary and high school contacted Kwikspace in mid-November 2022, which managed to complete the project in only eight weeks. This enabled the opening of SPARK Blue Downs in January 2023.
In a response to the school’s requirements, Kwikspace supplied a total of 58 units for a rental period of 24 months (32 from the Western Cape branch, and 26 from the Klipriver branch, Gauteng). The units consisted of 52 classroom units and six ablution units. This unique project also required Sparks Schools to source property and conduct civil infrastructure through third parties for an appropriate location for the new Blue Downs school.
“The sourced property for the new school was a raw wooded area, which required clearing of bushes and trees, and civil work such as levelling, plumbing and electrical work. We are proud to have completed this unique learning curve in a short timeframe. The SPARK schools’ franchise is a long-standing customer of Kwikspace, and we are pleased that they have once again trusted our abilities to meet their accommodation requirements,” says Stephen Viljoen, Account Manager, Kwikspace.
SPARK Lynedoch, was based at its initial location for six years before it was faced with the challenge of finding a new premises. The new premises have been purchased by the school and is less than 13 km from its previous location, continuing its accommodation to families who reside within proximity of the previous school.
“It brought a huge satisfaction when we witnessed the first few learners enter the school. Seeing the final product after knowing the premises was once a bush field, demonstrates the power of modular buildings from Kwikspace. I look forward to more projects like this in my career, we are ready with all the gained experience from this project,” concludes Viljoen.
