Kwikspace supplies units for Radio Telescope

Kwikspace, Africa’s largest supplier of prefabricated modular buildings supplied units to the engineering operating centre for the Square Kilometre Array Observatory (SKAO) in the Karoo region of the Northern Cape. The SKAO is a global radio telescope project hosted in South Africa, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Its bases in South Africa are in the Northern and Western Cape. Kwikspace were contracted to supply modular buildings for use at the interim Engineering Operations Centre, at Klerefontein, in the Northern Cape.

The Kwikspace units purchased by the SKAO were 6 x 12 m office units, a 1x 6 m ablution unit and a 7 x 7 m canteen unit, all of which were delivered over a two-month period between 28th of November 2022 and 28th January 2023. In addition to these units, Kwikspace will supply the SKAO with 3 x 12 m office units and another ablution unit to be delivered to the iEOC at Klerefontein, later this year.

The supplied units will cater to engineers and scientists working on the SKA-Mid project in the SKAO’s continued effort to build the most advanced radio telescopes in the world.

Kwikspace account manager Jean-Paul Heyns expressed the company’s excitement at contributing to the innovative project. “We are excited to have been approached to supply units for such a progressive project and look forward to doing future projects with the SKAO.”
