JOB TITLE: Welder (x2)

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Purpose: To operate equipment that welds ferrous and non-ferrous metals. A welder is responsible for assembling and fabricating structures made of metal.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reviewing blueprints/specifications.
  • Planning layouts and measurements.
  • Setting up and operating welding machines.
  • Set up of metal to weld i.e. squaring up frames and clamping materials to table.
  • Cutting metal into the appropriate shape.
  • Joining metal parts using intense heat.
  • Smoothing molten metal to remove creases.
  • Polishing and smoothing out metal surfaces.
  • Testing welded surfaces.
  • Controlling the process of fitting, burning and welding.
  • Managing and operating equipment safely.
  • Managing machines that manufacture and repair metal structures, tools, and equipment.
  • Ensuring equipment is maintained according to the recommended maintenance schedule and report abnormal functioning.
  • Transport finished product to next production stage.
  • Clean work area on completion of task.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing results as required.
  • Perform any other work-related duties when instructed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:

  • Matric
  • Professional Certification (e.g. welding trade certificate)

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

  • 1-2 years of welding experience
  • Manufacturing experience.
  • Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures
  • Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers etc.)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Basic knowledge of how to operate a welding machine.
  • Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.).
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance.

SKILLS:

  • Ability to read, write, and interpret technical documents and drawings.
  • Ability to measuring equipment i.e. measuring tape etc.
