Namibia, ǁKaras Region

Neckartal Dam

To assist in the construction of the Neckartal Dam in Namibia, Kwikspace supplied site offices measuring 1 206 m² and a remote camp measuring 3500 m² for Salini Namibia (Pty) Ltd (Salini), the construction and engineering company responsible for the build.

 

The premises were set up as site-erected buildings, which allowed for easy transportation of the construction materials and on-site completion according to the clients’ specifications.

 

The Neckartal Dam development is of great significance to Namibia as it will create a reservoir capable of holding 857 million cubic metres of water.

Mozambique, Funhalouro

ROMPCO Loopline 2

Kwikspace delivered site offices and workforce housing to accommodate approximately 240 site personnel at the ROMPCO Loopline 2 Project in Fulhalouro, Mozambique. The scheme involved the construction of a new pipeline to transport natural gas from the Temane and Pande gas fields in Mozambique down to Secunda in South Africa. The modular units, which had an overall capacity of over 4 400 m2, were brought in from Kwikspace’s Tete and Pemba facilities to meet a very tight deadline. Finer details such as furniture, fittings and equipment were also installed.

Guinea, Siguiri

AngloGold Ashanti

Kwikspace provided 1 370 m2 of site accommodation to the AngloGold Ashanti mine in Guinea. The new buildings included workforce housing for approximately 120 personnel, male and female ablutions, and site offices. These units were transported to the mine as modular components for rapid on-site assembly according to the client’s specifications.

 

Kwikspace’s delivery formed part of a project to increase the open pit gold mine’s production over the next eight years.

Zimbabwe Zimplats, Base

Metal Refinery Refurbishment Project

We have were appointed to design, manufacture and transport materials as well as to supervise installation.  The camp included accommodation facilities, kitchens and diners, a laundry, recreation facilities, a gymnasium and offices.

 

The camp houses 500 people and was completed on a tight schedule.

South Africa Gauteng

Classrooms, Gauteng Department of Education

While there are challenges that the South African education system is faced with, there are a number of businesses that are working alongside government to uplift the schooling standard across the country; and we pride ourselves on being one of those companies.

 

As an ongoing project, working hand-in-hand with the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE), we are in the process of delivering classrooms and grade R classrooms across Gauteng at various schools. By July 2015, we had delivered 22 buildings. We look forward to making a continuous, positive impact across the province.

Mozambique, Tete

Training Centre, Servco

Kwikspace partnered with our client Servco to partake in a CSI project to supply and deliver a local agricultural training school with classrooms, offices and ablutions. Situated 30 km outside of Tete, the school uplifts the community through the training of locals in farming techniques.

 

Our local infrastructure allowed us to be suitably equipped to deliver to this remote area and support Servco on a very worthwhile community project.

Mozambique, Tete

Remote Camp & Offices, Vale

Our turnkey projects are our signature work due to our innate ability to provide a complete accommodation solution with amenities, particularly in the remotest of areas. This particular project took place outside of Tete, forming part of the railway line development from Tete to Nacala Port – coal mining country.

 

We provided Parkhome rental units for accommodation, ablutions, site offices and diners as well as necessary amenities such as power generation, sewerage treatment, electrical reticulation, fencing, security and lighting.  We furthermore provided water and diesel supply as well as generator maintenance.

 

Executed throughout the rainy season, coupled with strict health and safety regulations and the difficulty of procuring machinery and equipment, we completed the project within the allowed time – now that’s great service!  As such, our client has extended their initial 12 month rental contract.

Mozambique, Rovubue

Office Complex, Minas de Revuboe

We embraced an exciting project to supply product for international clientele originating from Australia and Japan. We proved our capabilities by efficiently delivering three mine offices, specified with insulated panels and light weight steel roof structures.

 

As our products were supplied from our Tete factory, we were uniquely positioned to provide services at a favourable costing and timeframe that saw the happy staff accommodated in a combination of open plan and private offices plus food preparation and coffee areas, meeting rooms and toilets.

Zambia, Kacholola

Two Pioneer Camps, Mota-Engil

As part of the rehabilitation of the Great East Road in Zamia, Kwikspace was awarded the contract to build two pioneer camps along the construction route for Mota-Engil.  The scope of work included design, manufacture and assembly of various accommodation options, kitchens, diners, laundries and site buildings.

 

The project was particularly challenging as the sites were 200km apart and exceptionally heavy rains were experienced during much of the construction time. Kwikspace has years of experience operating in Zambia and we were able to work closely with our client to complete the project on time.

South Africa, Secunda

Camp facilities & Offices, SASOL Shutdown

We have been providing Parkhomes to SASOL for over 10 years and we were once again their company of choice to supply buildings for site offices  during their 2014 shutdown.

 

Within just one month, we delivered a total of 151 buildings and set them up on site for various uses, such as locker rooms, diners, ablution facilities and offices, which goes to show the flexibility of our products in terms of meeting clients’ requirements. As we offer various services that complement the manufacture and delivery of our buildings, we supplied lockers and canteen tables in addition to the buildings.

South Africa, Groblershoop

Accommodation & Offices, Bokpoort EPC

We had the privilege of being involved at a unique project site, Bokpoort CSP – a concentrated solar power (CSP) solar thermal power plant, located near Groblershoop in the Northern Cape province of South Africa.

Here, we supplied site erect buildings for use as a 1500 m² office block, dormitories measuring 2300 m² in total, a kitchen/ diner, a laundry room, a recreation centre and an access control building. Further to this, we were responsible for the supply of mobile accommodation units using our renowned Parkhome buildings and measuring 1300 m² in total.

South Africa, Gauteng

Classrooms, Gauteng Department of Education

We’re a company that is aware of the incredible impact that education has on young lives and we’re also very cognisant of the fact that effective learning is best received in a suitable classroom environment. For this reason, it makes us extremely pleased to be able to provide a product that fits the requirement so well.

In 2014, we delivered a total of 186 of our insulated buildings to schools across Gauteng, for use as classrooms and ablution facilities. We were furthermore responsible for landscaping, paving, fencing, the connection of external services and for civil works at these schools during the set-up of the classrooms and ablution facilities. Because of the nature of our products, noise is reduced and temperature is well regulated, thus creating an improved environment in which to learn.

South Africa, Dingleton

Camp Accommodation, Group 5 Housing

Having built a solid reputation for our large scale accommodation projects, we were keen to embark on the 1000 person Dingleton camp project to add value to a project of sensitive nature.

 

The entire Dingleton mining town community had to be relocated in order to comply with the legislation for minimum blasting distance. Situated 500m away from the mine’s open-pit, residents’ quality of life was negatively affected and thus re-housing them in Kwikspace’s prefabricated housing was a solution to the challenge posed.

 

We supplied 129 prefabricated accommodation units, as well as a kitchen and diner, mobile recreation facilities, 20 change rooms and ablutions units as well as site offices. Due to the robust nature of our product which is manufactured using polyurethane panels, the construction team now enjoys comfortable accommodation.

Mozambique, Tete

Pioneer Camps, Mota-Engil

The Tete Coal fields of Mozambique saw tremendous growth up to 2013 but a major investment in rail infrastructure was also needed. Kwikspace has constructed numerous accommodation and pioneer camps along the Nacala Railway line including our robust Parkhome building was awarded a contract by Mota-Engil to construct six pioneer camps on the Sena Railway line.

Office Complex, Barloworld CAT

In 2013 we were hired by Barloworld Caterpillar to construct their new office complex. From this facility they will be managing the mining contracts for Caterpillar equipment so it was essential that we met the specifications for the long-term use of the buildings. The project required some different designs as well as double storey structures to make best use of the limited space they had available on the site.

Kitchen, Sodexo

From our Tete branch, we completed the construction of a large kitchen for Sodexo who have a catering contract with Rio Tinto in the Tete – Moatize coal region. We made exclusive use of local labour and Mozambican sub-contractors. we furthermore provided training inside our own factory as well as on-site. These types of projects are part of our long-term strategy to develop companies and local skills.

South Africa, Western Cape

Classrooms, Dept. of Public Works

Having been awarded three out of four government tenders for new classrooms, We were able to contribute to the growth of education in the country. At Vooruitsig Primary we completed the construction of 20 classrooms together with ablution facilities and staff rooms, which will allow for a possitive impact over 800 learners. At Du Noon Primary School we supplied new classrooms and relocated existing facilities to make way for new buildings. These works contributed positively to the education of another 900 children. Finally at Steynville Primary School we supplied over 45 school buildings to assist in the education of a further 1300 learners.

South Africa, Secunda

On site rental units, SASOL shutdown

SASOL is one of the world’s largest producers of synthetic fuels and when they require accommodation, offices and washrooms for their shutdowns in Secunda, they turn to us for dependable delivery of buildings. In September 2013, SASOL had an additional 20 000 people on site and we supplied over 200 of our Parkhomes on rent for the duration of their work. We worked to a very short timeline because of the urgency of the project and we also supplied a range of furniture, equipment and air conditioners.

Off-site rental Accommodation, SASOL shutdown – Phase II

As part of the 2013 SASOL shutdown, We were also contracted to supply contractor and management accommodation just outside the facility. We delivered accommodation for 900 people in a very short time frame together with ablution facilities. We have been supplying SASOL with on-site and off-site buildings for almost 10 years and our CI Parkhome building has become the dependable site relocatable building of choice.

South Africa, Gauteng

Classrooms, Gauteng Department of Education

We truly believe that South Africa has the potential to reach excellent heights. A large part of achieving this, many would agree, lies in educating our youth.

With a passion for education ourselves, we call it a privilege to have had the opportunity to deliver a number of classrooms, grade R classrooms and ablution facilities in Gauteng, at various schools, during the course of 2013. In total, we manufactured, delivered and set-up 294 buildings at these schools and were additionally responsible for landscaping, paving, fencing, the connection of external services and civil works. What a joy it was to see so many happy learners arrive to be taught in their new classrooms.

Mozambique, Nacala

750-Person Accommodation Camp, Vale

We were contracted to set up a 750 person camp in Nacala, Mozambique to accommodate Vale’s personnel and contractors. Our scope of work included the design, manufacture and construction of accommodation buildings, recreation facilities, offices, as well as a kitchen, diner and hospital for our client.

Not only were we able to provide quality accommodation on site; we also invested in the training of local labour and contractors to ensure long-term benefits for workers in the region and a reliable supply of contractors for our ongoing work in Mozambique.

Malawi, Kayelekera

Support Facilities, Paladin Energy Ltd

In 2009, we were responsible for supplying Paladin Energy with numerous buildings for its plant expansion at Kayelekera. In 2013, we were approached to design, supply and supervise the erection of further buildings at the mine including an administration office, change houses, warehouses and accommodation.

Mali, Sadiola

Additional Accommodation, AngloGold Ashanti

In 2012, we were awarded a contract to design, manufacture and erect additional accommodation buildings measuring 1600m² for AngloGold Ashanti’s mine in Sadiola. The project site was in the North Western part of Mali, close to the Senegal border and posed a number of logistical challenges since the country is land-locked; however we were able to overcome these with success.

Malawi Blantyre

Two 350 – Person Camps, Mota-Engil

We were hired by our client Mota-Engil to design, manufacture and erect all of the kitchens, diners, laundries, clinics, offices and recreation buildings for two 350 person camps. Both sites formed part of the Nacala Railway Project in Malawi and had to be constructed simultaneously to ensure this strategic section of the railway was completed on time.

 

We encountered logistical delays and adverse weather conditions but our deep-rooted experience working across Africa equipped us to overcome these obstacles and deliver a quality product for our client.

Guinea, Nzérékoré,

600-Person Camp, Odebrecht

Following the successful installation of three pioneer camps in Simandou the iron ore area of Guinea, Kwikspace was contracted by Odebrecht to construct a fully equipped camp for 600 people. The site was in the South East region of the country in a town called Nzérékoré on the border of Liberia.

 

Our scope of work included the design, manufacture and procurement of all items required to run the facility including accommodation, administration offices, kitchens, diners, recreation rooms, gymnasiums, a clinic, laundries and social areas. We also supplied the generators, water treatment and waste water treatment plants, electrical reticulation and water reticulation.

Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mongbwalu

300 – Person Camp, AngloGold Ashanti

We were contracted by TWP Engineers on behalf of AngloGold Ashanti, to construct a 300 person accommodation camp in the North Eastern region of DRC. The scope of work included accommodation buildings, dormitories, ablution blocks, offices, a kitchen and diner. We were also responsible for the supply of furniture and equipment for the camp.

 

The project took place in an extremely unsettled and challenging part of the country as government and rebel forces were engaged in battles and very heavy rainfall was experienced during construction.

South Africa, Mpumalanga Province

Rental Camp for 1800 people, Xstrata

We were contracted to supply accommodation, ablutions, showers, offices and canteens for the Lion Ferrochrome Project in Mpumalanga South Africa. The scale and duration of this project indicates the capacity we have to support large scale rental projects. Delivery deadlines where very tight but together with our transporters we were able to meet the deadlines set by our client. As with most limited duration projects our Parkhome rentals are the best solution.

Guinea, Zogota

Pioneer Camps for 400 people, Odebrecht

In 2011 we were tasked with a very challenging project to construct three remote pioneer camps in the Simandou Region of Guinea for Odebrecht and Vale. The project required us to work with other material suppliers while retaining responsibility for the design and commissioning of the camps.

Our scope of work included the design, procurement, installation and commissioning of all equipment to run these remote sites including, generators, water treatment plants, sewage treatment plants, kitchen and laundry equipment, clinics, incinerators, camp furniture and office equipment.

South Africa Mpumalanga Province

Office Complex, Roshcon SOC Ltd

When South Africa’s power utility, Eskom started building a 4800MW power station in the Mpumalanga Province of the country it needed a large office complex for its appointed EPC firm and contractors. We were tasked with building offices, a kitchen and canteens measuring 8 500m² at the Kusile Power Station.

The project was particularly challenging as it took place at the same time as an office construction project that we were involved with at the Medupi Power station in another part of the country, as well as with the set -up of the buildings at multiple sites for the 2010 Soccer World Cup held in South Africa.

Botswana, Palapye

400- Person Camp, Fluor

Fluor was awarded a contract to improve the materials handling of Morepule Colliery in central Botswana and needed an accommodation camp for its engineering personnel and contractors. Palapye is a remote part of Botswana with very little support infrastructure.

Fluor awarded us with a contract to design, manufacture and erect a 400 person mobile camp using our Parkhomes for accommodation units. A large kitchen and diner, recreation facilities, site offices and landscaping were also supplied. We were also responsible for the supply and installation of furniture and equipment for the camp as well as a sewage treatment plant with a purified water irrigation scheme.

Angola, Luanda

Port Terminal, Sogester

Our client on this project was Sogester, a terminal management company in Luanda, Angola. We were contracted to build a large administration building, a canteen, dormitories, ablutions and a workshop. These structures are used for the personnel managing the concession. The project was of strategic importance to our client since Luanda is one of the most congested ports on the west coast of Africa. Angola is also one of the more complicated countries in which to operate but, working together with an excellent client, we were able to hand over a very successful project.

Zambia, Lumwana

800 Person Camp Equinox Mining

The Copper Belt in Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo has some of the richest reserves of copper in the world and when mine expansion was required, Equinox Mining requested that we construct various accommodation villages. The first phase involved the construction of an 800 person camp with different grades of dormitories and houses. the set up of kitchens, diners and recreation rooms were also part of our responsibility.

 

In the second phase of the project we built 230 two and three bedroom houses for long-term accommodation. Adverse weather made certain periods of construction very difficult but we were able to deliver an exceptional camp for our client.

South Africa, Limpopo Province

Office Complex, MEI Hitachi

Prior to our involvement at the Kusile Power Station, We were contracted to build a 5 700 m² office complex at the Medupi Power Station. Medupi is a 4 800 MW power station being built in Lephalale area of South Africa. The project was implemented under very tight deadlines as the project teams rushed to make progress on-site at a time when the country’s power grid was under strain.

The project was also challenging as parts of it took place at the same time as the construction of an office complex at the Kusile Power Station, multiple sites for the 2010 soccer World Cup, where we supplied media centres and press offices, as well as a number of very large export projects in Africa.

Senegal, Sabodala

800- Person Camp, Ausenco

Approximately 600 kilometres from Dakar is the Sabodala gold mine, where we were contracted to design, manufacture and construct a camp for 800 people. The scope of work included management homes, single quarter dormitories, fifty-man dormitories, large kitchens, diners and recreation rooms as well as hard-wired fire alarm systems, all furniture and fittings, kitchen equipment and cold storage.

Malawi, Kayelakera

Support Facilities, Paladin Energy Ltd

When Paladin Energy, an Australian based uranium mining company embarked on a large plant upgrade at its facility in Malawi, we were contracted to design, supply and construct large control rooms and laboratories in the acid plant facility. The site was located at their Kayelekera facility in the central region of Malawi and in addition to the set-up of plant buildings we were also responsible for erecting administration buildings, change houses for the labour and gate houses.

Democratic Republic of the Congo, Katanga

150- Person Camp, Roan Mining

The Katanga Province in the DRC has one of the world’s richest reserves of copper. We were contracted by Roan Mining to build a 150 person camp near the town of Kolwezi. Our scope of work consisted of the design, supply and construction of management accommodation, labour accommodation, a kitchen, dining hall, laundry, recreation rooms, a clinic, as well as mine security and gate houses.

 

The transport and import clearance of goods was particularly challenging but together with our logistics partner and local subcontractors we were able to deliver the camp to our client successfully.

Democratic Republic of the Congo Katanga 150- Person Camp, Mutanda Mining

This project for Mutanda Mining overlapped with the camp we were buildings for Roan Mining in Katanga DRC but we were still able to manage the two separate sites and supply chains successfully. Mutanda the design, supply and erection of a 150 person camp including administration offices, two, three and four bedroom houses for mine personnel and their families, single accommodation units, ablutions and a fully equipped site clinic, the clinic was set up including an isolation ward, a lead-lined x-ray room, emergency ward and ambulance bay.

Angola, Soyo

200- Person Training Facility, Bechtel

We were contracted by Bechtel to design and construct a training centre with our prefabricated units to be used as a facility to develop local skills applicable to the Angola LNG project. The site was in Soyo on the northern border of Angola.

The camp included dormitories, modular classrooms, a kitchen, laundry, recreation room, clinic and a large workshop where practical instruction took place. In addition, we supplied generators, sewage treatment facilities, as well as furniture and equipment for all of the buildings.
