Kwikspace, Africa’s largest manufacturer of prefabricated mobile buildings, has supplied 23 guard huts to its customers, the City of Cape Town (COCT) municipality and multi-disciplinary engineering and construction company, Grinaker LTA. The guard huts have been installed at various sewerage pump stations across the Cape peninsula, enabling permanent on-site posting of security guards to protect the plant equipment against vandalism. The purchase of the guard hut units is part of an initiative by the COCT to upgrade the City’s sewage pump stations.
Having previously purchased prefabricated units from Kwikspace, COCT and Grinaker LTA were familiar with the company’s quick turnaround. “Our units save clients time and money,” states Tony Collison, Kwikspace Account Manager, noting that brick and mortar guard huts would have cost more and taken longer to build.
Kwikspace guard hut mobile units (sized 2.42 x 2.40m / 3.5 x 2.99m) are factory-assembled, equipped with lighting, and fully insulated, ensuring a high level of comfort. “In addition, they are manufactured to ISO 9001:2008 quality standards, with a minimum lifespan of 20 years,” says Collison.
The COCT had appointed Grinaker LTA as the project manager for upgrades to the City’s sewage pump stations. Together, the COTC and Grinaker LTA purchased the guard huts over a six-month period (October 2021 to May 2022). The units have been installed on-site at the following sewage plant locations: Khayelitsha, Phillipi, Retreat, Lavenderhill, Fishhoek, Maitland, Milnerton, Bloekombos, Goodwood, Paarden Eiland, Wallacedene, Athlone, Rylands, Summergreens, CT Airport, and Baden Powell. According to Collison, the COTC may require another 10 guard hut units, to be supplied over the next few months. “Kwikspace units are factory built ensuring high quality and fast delivery; ready for connection to utilities,” he concludes.
